On Friday 30 March, 2007 (today, lollol) baby Oops finally came in to this world, weighing in at an incredibly teeny tiny 4 and a half pounds, considdering he was just 2 and a half weeks early. He was born by C section at around six o'clock, halfpast six AM UK time. We're not sure what Lou and Richard have decided to call him yet. When we were both on the phone at 7.00 this morning, mumhad got it in to her head that they'd named the baby Matthew, but then she was told his name was Robbie. No doubt either Lou or Richard'll set us on the right track sometime over the next few days, but we're just so, so relieved after that real rollercoaster pregnancy that he's here and both mother and baby're doing very well.
Jen.
jen, i'm honestly so happy, words can't say how much. awww, i can't wait to hopefully see him soon. whatever your name is, i love you, kay xxxxxxxxxxxx.
congrats! i am happy for you
Name's not important, health is.
Congrats to little NoName.
Bob
Robbie or Matthew. We're not entirely sure which they've gone for yet.
Brilliant. I'm happy the little chap arrived safely it's an amazing experience.
Update. Lou's C section didn't go as well as we'd hoped. It turns out it was sort of an emmergency C section anyway, and the stupid surgeons nicked Lou's bladder, so they had to get someone in to sort that out, Lou was in quite a lot of pain besides the epidural anaesthetic and the baby was flat when he came out, so they've whisked him off to SCBU. On the plus side though, he's a very round little baby, he's feeding well though he only took about an ounce of breastmilk and Lou might pop in and see him later tonight and see if he'll latch on to the breast. He's really only in SCBU so they can monitor him. Name update. Well, I got all sorts of mixed messages from mum about the baby's name on the phone this morning when she got to work, but Gran's confirmed. The baby's name is Richard James Robertson, but he'll be known simply, as Robbie.
Ok, I am not sure of the story behind the baby.
But in any case. congradulations. Having a baby is an amazing thing no matter the story. I am glad mom, and child are good.!
Jamie
How long is Robby, (forgive my spelling), going to be in Special Care? I'm glad everybody's okay. *smile*
O I think Robbie's only in SCBU for tonight so they can monitor him.
At least it's only for one night, although to a new mom, it must feel like an eternity. I was in a Special Care Unit for six months, and thank God that didn't happen. When is he coming home, if he's not there by the time this is read?
Well, Lou hopes she and Robbie'll come home on Tuesday. I'll update this topic if there's any news.
Well! Been there, done that as they say! We've just got back from the hospital, having spent almost a whole two hours there in Lou's fair-sized, but rather cramped side room. Richard took us down the corridor to see Robbie in SCB|U. The feeding tube's gone, so he just has an antibiotic drip in his left arm. I got the time of Birth wrong though. Robbie was actually born at 3.35 AM. (mum was looking to see if he'd had his APGAR tests in his notes at the end of his cot. We got two lovely photos. One of mum leaning over the cot and the other with me trying to get him to grasp my finger, but he was asleep but still waving his arms around. ~God only knows what he was dreaming or thinking and he hadn't quite got the grasp reflex sussed, so in the photo my hand's sort of just in the cot with Robbie, very well wrapped up in a couple of blankets and a hat that's too big for him. Lollol. Then we went back to Lou's room for a while, helped her change her catheter, the result of her slightly botched C sdection, then Gran and the girls turned up to meet their tiny grandson/little brother, so we let them in to the special care unit and came home again.
euwww, jen. i hope lou recovers well, sounds nasty. glad you've got the chance to see him though.
Yeah, so am I. Hope he comes out of SCBU soon.
If he's off the feeding tube, and breathing room air, then he'll be okay. *smiles*
Yeah, but he's still on this antibiotic drip and he's still in SCBU because he's on that drip. Mad really. Some babies need to be in SCBU a lot more than Robbie does. He isn't even on a ventilator, because he had those steroid injections nearly two months back when he was still in the womb, because they thought they'd have to get him out 8 weeks early.
I'm keeping him in my prayers.
Aw'w'w thanks Joanne. He's two days old now. Mum's driving Kezzie and Tegen, his two much older sisters, age 9 and 12 over to the hospital again this afternoon. We're not sure whether he's moved out of SCBU yet.
Hi folks. Robbie left SCBU nearly two hours ago. Yayayayayayay!
glad to hear that *smile*
Is he home yet?
no. He's still in hospital, but he's back in the room with his mum. They're hoping to go home either tomorrow or Wednesday.
congrats on the new baby
*smiles* I'm glad he's doing well. How old is he now?
congrats, i'm happy for you and your family, and that the little one is healthy.
He's nearly 4 days old, already. Lollol.
Well, he was apparently healthy when I posted this on Monday. However, I went up to RNC in Hereford for my asessment yesterday, and Robbie then became Jaundiced. The nurses movedan incubator in to Lou's room so Robbie could stay with his mum, and he had the usual phototherapy to bring his bilirubin levels back down to normal. The Jaundice went as suddenly as it came on really, so mother and baby have just been discharged from hospital two hours ago.
Thank goodness he's all right. *smile*
Yeah, thank god, eh? Looks like our usual Easter Sunday celebrations're off though. Lou doesn't really feel up to travelling, even short distances in the car, so we're probably having a little drinks and nibbles party round her place Monday for Easter.
Robbie's also one week old today.
Is he home with mum and the rest of the family?
Well, the other three children went up to visit their dad's mum Granny Norman, in Scarborough N Yorks, but they'll be home again tomorrow night. Lou just needed some time to herself with the baby. Aw'w'w'w! I had my first huggle today. A good 20 minutes while mum popped down the shop leaving Gran and myself with Lou and Robbie. He was all tucked up in a one of those fleecy blankets with a muzzy (one of those muslin squares/burp cloths.) When I wasn't talking to him and stuff though, he'd turn his head, probably thinking I'd start talking to him again. I didn't want to let mum have him while I drank the quickly cooling cup of tea in front of me. He filled his nappy while mum was holding him, so we made a fairly hasty retreat when Lou changed him.
That's the part I dread later on, if I have kids. changing the full nappy Hold your noses. lol
Same here, but I know I'll have to do it if I have kids, whether I like it or not, lollol.
Yeah, that's true. How's Robbie?
He still looked a bit Jaundiced when we saw him yesterday, but the midwife said that would clear up on its own.
Well, Robbie's already had his first Easter family celebration yesterday, at just 10 days old. There were 18 people there all together, Robbie's six half-brothers and half-sisters, and of course, Lou and Richard his mum and dad, both sets of Grandparents, Robbie's auntie and cousin, (mum and myself) Robbie's Uncle Clive and Robbie's other Uncle Richard and girlfriend Linda. I know everyone enjoyed themselves immensely, getting high on the champers wetting the baby's head, all the kids on the big trampoline down the garden. Robbie was his usual bleary-eyed contented little bundle of joy self, for the first half-hour or so, then Lou gave him just half his feed before she felt she had to help mum and Gran serve up lunch, a marinaded lamb and orange casserole, a bolognaise without the spaghetti and baked potatoes mum had spent around 8 hours preparing the day before, so Robbie started to grizzle and wouldn't go back properly when he was put down to sleep in his pram which was parked in a nice shady spot, so Lou finished where she left off, but he still wasn't going back in the pram. Juliet, Richard's mum took over, trying to settle him. He quietened down for about 10-15 minutes, so he went back in the pram. he was awake and he had his eyes open according to big sister Kezzie, but then he started to cry again, so Lou took him indoors intending to give him another feed, but got distracted, looking for cakes and stuff she had for pudding in the fridge. This second feed seemed to work and Robbie went off to sleep again. Gran was saying he wouldn't wake till around 11.00 that night, but it was all too good to be true. Lou and Richard took tiny squalling Robbie indoors again. When we left, Robbie was still bawling his eyes out. Ah well! The rest of us enjoyed ourselves immensely.
That's one huge family. *smile*
O, but still, not every member of our family was at Lou's house yesterday. There're the Brooks and the Oakleys who weren't there yesterday.
Robbie is so lucky, so many people to love him.
Bob
Yeah, he is. He'll meet the Oakleys on Saturday. My second cousin Paul, his wife and their three kids live in Boston, Massachusetts, so we hardly ever see them unless they come over to visit Paul's dad and autistic brother Julian, so that'll be nice catching up after about 7 years. I've never met the girls but I met Devon when he was about 11 months old just before the Millenium. I don't know when we'll see the Brooks again either, (at least, not my second cousin Mandy, husband Gavin and their three children, Rosie, Vicky and James).
Some days, I wish my family was that big. I don't know my mom's side very well because they all live in Korea, and she hasn't seen them in years.
I hardly know my dad's side of my family at all either, because he left us for his second wife when I was knee high to a grashopper, but I knew my paternal Grandparents and his Auntie Betty, though I don't really remember them.
Robbie's two weeks old today. He should've been born on the 16th of April, this Monday coming. That would've been his due date.
Robbie's gained 1 lb 9 Oz in weight since he was born. At birth he weighed 4 lbs 7 Oz, now he's 3-and-a-half weeks old and weighs 6 lbs. He's done better than any of us orriginally thought he would. I always knew he was a little fighter.
One and a half pounds in 3 and a half weeks. Damn! The kid's gonna play football before he goes to school.
Good show.
Bob
More than a good show mate. It's the gospel truth. He's going to be very tall as well. Gran, flor some strange reason was measuring his feet in the hospital, and they're already about 6 Cm long.
Wow, you have an enormous family. I guess they view infant care a little differently in the UK. To have a four day old baby that was born premature and developed jaundis after spending two days or so in special care at such a large gathering of people with children there and out-of-doors would not be common at all with anyone I know anywhere in the states. Not critisizing, merely commenting on the rather marked difference I see here.
Blimey, this topic's almost a year old, lmao, but yeah, the Jaundice was clearing up and when we had our Easter party, he was 10 days old. If there was a 30th of February though, he'd turn 11 months then, but for accuracy's sake, let's just say he'll be 11 months old tomorrow.
Jen.
Wonderful. Nearly a year old.
